Summertime is a slow time for the Helpline House Food Bank donations. That is true of all food banks. The need is great here on Bainbridge Island, and food or financial donations are always welcome. Marilyn Gremse, the Food Bank Manager, has the ability to purchase food for pennies on the dollar. In 2012 almost $80,000 was spent on food purchases to fill the shelves. In addition many gardeners and the Helpline House garden supply fresh vegetables and fruits.
Carol Thornburgh insures and is actively involved with Helpline House. Rachelle is on a list of bakers who get requests to bake birthday cakes for kids who otherwise would not have a birthday cake, and she donates about 6 cakes annually, delivering them to Helpline House where they are picked up to celebrate a birthday.
Please visit Helpline’s website www.helplinehouse.org for more information or to make a monetary donation. Their Mission Statement is “Neighbor Helping Neighbor”.
