About Thornburgh Insurance Agency
After many years in the insurance business working for large brokerage firms, Ross Thornburgh opened Puget Sound Associates April 1, 1980 at the corner of Ericksen Avenue and Winslow Way. Carol joined him a few months later. Ten years later the agency moved up the street to a little blue 1907 Victorian house at 188 Ericksen Avenue and changed the name to Thornburgh Insurance Agency.
Today, the agency has the same goals it did in the beginning which is to help our insureds understand their policies, give objective advice and provide outstanding service. We have Safeco’s Lifetime Award of Excellence and Premier Partner designations.
Ross was a man of great integrity. He was well known for his hats and his walks to the post office where he would meet and greet everyone he knew. Ross is missed by his family, friends and the community.
We still abide by our original founding principles and Mission Statement “Growth through Service—with respect and empathy for our clients, credibility to our companies and pride in our agency”.
Carol Thornburgh specializes in commercial insurance. Since moving to Bainbridge Island in 1975, Carol has been an active member of the community. She has participated in organizations such as Helpline House, Team Winslow (Downtown Association) and the Marge Williams Office Center. She is a member of the Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce, Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, and Bainbridge Business Connection (BBC). Currently, she is on the Olympic Music Festival Board (www.olympicmusicfestival.org) and is excited to support such a talented group of musicians who perform over the course of several summer weekends. Carol enjoys gardening, reading and spending time with her family, including volunteering at Odyssey where her two grandsons attend school.
Leslee McDonald has been an important part of our team since 2006, as a licensed Personal Lines Agent. Prior to this, she gained seven years experience and a loyal following of clientele, working at another Bainbridge Island agency. She and her husband have lived on Bainbridge for many years, raising their two daughters here. Leslee was actively involved in the Bainbridge school system during that time. They have participated on many occasions in the Grand Ol’ Fourth of July showing their classic car. They now have five grandchildren—two who live on Bainbridge Island and three who live in Arizona.
Rachelle Thornburgh is a licensed Personal Lines Agent. She worked throughout high school and college as an administrative assistant/receptionist for Thornburgh Insurance Agency and Shinstrom & Norman, Inc. In 1988, Rachelle graduated from Bainbridge High. She went to Whitman College, and took time off to do a chef apprenticeship at the Ark Restaurant. In the early 1990’s, after getting an AA degree from Seattle Central Community College, she then studied Nutrition at Bastyr University and received a BA from UW. Rachelle is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, BIMA and BBC. She also enjoys volunteering in the BARN Kitchen Arts Studio, volunteering for the Olympic Music Festival, doing art projects, spending time with her nephews and spoiling her Maine Coon kitten.
Leslie Maddux, our Administrative Assistant/Receptionist has been a great addition and support to our office. We are happy she joined our agency in 2012. She has lived in Kitsap County 40 years, 10 of which have been on Bainbridge Island. She especially enjoys being out in nature, spending time with friends and family and exploring new places. She has been to Kenya, Australia, and most recently spent two weeks in New Zealand.
